Occasionally, inspiration can be a bully. I’ve had the idea in the back of my head for a few weeks for the little teacup fairy garden that I did last night. I have lots of other projects waiting in line right now. However, last night nothing would do except to dive head first into this project. I am so pleased with the results. I hope that you like it too.

This is Henry the House Hob

Image

Now House Hobs usually are home bodies. They like to stay in their houses and do the things they do to help out. However, today when I was getting ready to go out to Crystal Peak hiking and crystal mining, Henry pulled on my pant leg and said, “Can I please go out with you today? I feel like I need an adventure.” So Henry got his stuff together and came crystal mining with me.

Here he is checking out the crystal mine sign. We hiked up the slippery slope to what we thought would be a good place to dig. Henry got his tools out.

He got right to work. We dug and picked and searched.

After a while. Henry got tired. He curled up in the tool bucket and went to sleep. He slept until we got home. After all, it was a very big day for him. When we got home he wanted to show me the best crystal he found.

Henry had a great day. Remember if you have a House Hob, that every once in a while(but not too often) they like to have an adventure.

This is Chester Chicken. Now chickens are not normally something that I would think about making, but last year I made several. I did a show in Fair Oaks, California called the Chicken Festival. They encouraged everyone to have some sort of chicken for sale. Chester is my prototype. I did not sell a single chicken at that show. All of them have found homes since then though.

The real reason I wanted to write about chickens today is that yesterday my husband and I finished our new chicken coop. I have been missing fresh eggs so much since I moved away from the farm five years ago. This year my husband said I could get chickens if I wanted to. My girls are almost three months old. Were they every mad yesterday when I moved them from their current housing in to the new coop. They easily conquered the use of the ramp. I was a bit worried about that. I only had to put two of the seven into their little house when I closed the door last night. I thought I was going to have to make them all mad at me again. Here is a photo of the new coop and some of my girls.

It is a dark and dreary day here at Woodland Whimsy. It is raining (yeah!) alternating with hail (boo!). The wind is blowing and it is quite chilly. That means I am staying inside. I’ve been working on getting my new web page built. It is a bit of a challenge for me. I mostly use my computer for email, facebook, and games. I think that it is coming together well though. If you have any plans for the long weekend, please let me know what they are.

This is Harry the Dragon. He is my third needle felted creation and first dragon I ever made. He is actually the very first fantasy character that I made. (I think that my photo taking has improved quite a bit since I began.) While I was doing research on the internet to figure out how this whole needle felting thing worked, I ran across a site call Owning Alpaca. ( http://www.owning-alpaca.com/ ) This web site is full of great information on how to do all kinds of felting as well as how to care for alpacas. I bought their DVD on how to make dragons. Harry is the result. He doesn’t look that much like the dragon from the DVD, but it gave me the information I needed to really get going.

Creating Harry was the beginning of my love for felting. He told me his name fairly early in the creation process. He whispered, “Add a bit more here.” and “I want more spines.” When I sold Harry, I was sad. He went to a lovely lady who  also bought four of Harry’s siblings. I know that he is in a very happy home. I will never forget the joy that creating him gave me and continues to give me, as he was my gateway creation.
