Happy Friday!

PICS 488

I was browsing through some old files and found some photos from years ago. It was fun to see them and be reminded of the fun we had vacationing with the kids. Playing in the lake, picnicking, and hiking. No surprisingly, there are a lot of photos of fungus mixed in among the other photos. This is one of them. A pretty little mushroom growing in the moss.

One never really knows where inspiration will come from. Sometimes a chance comment can really get your brain moving in a creative direction. For my forty second birthday, I made a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy cake(as one does).

This is what it looked like.

Mice

Mice

I kept the two white mice sculptures. They sit on a shelf with some other display items. My in laws were visiting last week. My mother in law asked if I had made the mice. I told her that I had, they came off of my birthday cake. She said she thought that they were needled felted. Then she suggested that I could have needle felted them. Which I agreed I probably could. That thought bounced around in my brain for a couple of days.

This little mouse was the result. I am super happy with him. He has already gone to his forever home.

Some creatures are too small to ride horses. How does one deal with that? Saddle up your mousey friend of course.

Here is a color variation.

So look and listen when you are searching for inspiration. You never know what might give you a great idea.

After getting the the decorating done, it was time for the main event, the party! Henry went down by the lake with the kids. It was cold down there. The kids got in the water anyway. They were covered with goose bumps.

Henry thought those kids were crazy, but he enjoyed watching them from the tree stump.

“Come in and play with us Henry,” shouted the children. Henry went closer, but he still didn’t get in that cold water. Henry is a smart House Hob.

Everyone came back up from the lake and got dried off. It was time for cake.

Henry loved his slice of white cake. I couldn’t believe how fast he ate it.

Henry really enjoyed watching the gifts being opened.

Everyone was very happy with their presents.

It had been a wonderful family day at the lake, but it was time to clean up and head home. “I’m so happy that I got to go to the party,” said Henry, “but I am ready to go home.” House Hobs only like an adventure occasionally. They have fun, but are usually ready for them to be over so they can go home.

I hope you enjoyed Henry’s Birthday Adventure. You can see more of my work on my facebook page.

Happy Friday! This weekend it is time for my husband’s ski patrol refresher. They have to do training every year to brush up on their skills before ski season. He has to both train and be trained. I will be going along to help out. What are you doing this weekend?

House Hobs by their very nature don’t get out very often. However, our family has several birthdays right around the first of September. Since another family function had most of us in the same general area, which almost never happens. We got together to celebrate some birthdays and Henry wanted to come. It was a breezy day at Lake Tahoe the day of the party.

Henry scrambled up a tree so he could get a good view of the lake. It was overcast, so the lake really had a moody look about it.

Ready for balloons

Henry was anxious to help blow up the balloons. He got every thing he needed together so he was ready to go.

Henry controlled the flow of Helium as the balloons were filled.

After the balloons where filled with Helium, Henry helped tie them together to make a balloon arch.

My awesome husband posing somewhat unwillingly to display the balloons Henry is helping him tie together. Sadly, it was way to windy to get a clear photo of the balloon arch once it was done.

After getting the balloon arch put together, it was time for a snack. My grandson(who is mean mugging me in this photo) very nicely shared his sandwich with Henry.

In the next blog post, Henry will take a look at the cold, cold lake and presents will be opened.
