Happy Friday! Here in the US it is Black Friday. Do you go out shopping for the deals, or do you stay home and away from the crowds like I do?

PICS 223

This guy is a lighter in color than most of the ones like him that I have seen. I thought he was very handsome.

It seems that illness has finally departed from us here at Woodland Whimsy. Last week was not a fun one. This week there is a lot to look forward to. Thanksgiving, the anniversary of my arrival on the planet, and Sunday(which I guess is technically next week) I will be at Christmas on Main in Grass Valley.

Christmas on Main

See where it says Felted critters? That’s me. There are going to be some really great artists there. It would totally be worth the drive if you are within a couple of hours. I am so excited to be able to participate.

Happy Friday! I hope that your day is full of magic today.

PICS 430

This mushroom is plenty large enough for the pixies to hold a little picnic and dance party on it.

The Saturday of Convolution, I was able to participate in the Finding Your Troll Tale Workshop with the Frouds. If you have not a had a chance to see Brian and Wendy’s latest book, you should make an effort to do so. In it you get to meet the Froudian Trolls, who are defined by the stories they know. The trolls tie items to their tails which help them remember each story. The workshop started with a meditation directed by Wendy, followed by sketching or writing down things we saw during the meditation. Then we worked on making our own troll tails, using a stick as our tail. It was a wonderful experience. I was able to get photos of several of the projects made in the workshop. I was not able to get a group photo and am apparently too silly to have someone take a photo of me with mine. I also did not get everyone’s name, but I did get their permission to use their photos here.

This lovely couple was also in the mask making workshop.

My friend Sherri, who is lovely and so talented.

Kimmi, who put together an incredible convention.

My table mate for the workshop.

This gentleman was also in the mask making work shop.

Michelle and Alan, I’m so glad that I got to meet them.

If you ever get the chance to take a class or participate in a workshop with any of the Frouds, I really hope you will do it. They are all wonderful to work with and learn from. You may also want to check out Froud Meditations, Pathways to Faery. It is an app for idevices and available as an MP3 from Amazon.

Happy Friday! It is very busy here at Woodland Whimsy. I have committed to doing four shows in the first three weeks of December. The work shop is busy and the felting needles are flying.

Purple Mushroom

Purple Mushroom

This is another mushroom I found on a hike in the North Idaho woods. This was taken either the first or second time I was up there. The mushrooms were fantastic on that trip. I haven’t seen mushrooms this color since. (That probably means I just haven’t been there when they were out and about.) There are fantastic hiking trails all around Priest Lake. This photo was taken on the Beaver Creek Trail. It is a wide easy path. We usually hike in about three miles and have lunch at the first camp site, then hike back out.

I had the wonderful experience of attending Convolution in Burlingame this past weekend. It is a second year convention and it was incredible. There were a couple of bobbles at the beginning, I have no doubt that there will be fewer next year. The guest list was incredible: Brian, Wendy, and Toby Froud; Richard and Wendy Pini, Richard Kadrey, Ivan Van Norman, Tricky Pixy, M. Todd Gallowglas, and way too many more to list. I was fortunate to be able to take both of the workshops offered by the Frouds. The mask making workshop was on Friday afternoon. It was listed as a workshop led by Toby, but all three of them were there teaching us how to make beautiful masks. It was incredible. I thought I would share a photo of the masks that we all made.

I was able to wear my mask to the Goblin Ball on Saturday night. I think it went with my costume pretty well.

I am already registered for next year’s convention. Tanya Huff is one of the guests of honor. The only thing up for Convolution 2014 is registration, but you should go check out what happened this year.
