My name is Shana and I am married to a wonderful man. We have a blended family of six children and five grandchildren. I have been crafting for as long as I can remember. There are few crafts that I haven’t tried, and I love most of them.
I am a gardener who does quite a bit of tree work. Wood from tree limbs that have to be removed is so beautiful. I was happy when I found a way to reuse them in a way that displays their beauty. It is much better than dumping them at the land fill. They do not do green waste recycling where I live. The construction of Fairy Cottages is where Woodland Whimsy began.
About a year later, my mother got alpacas. Suddenly I had bags and bags of wonderful fiber. Whatever would I do with it? I remembered hearing about needle felting and started to research it on line. The possibilities seemed endless. I found some needles and started stabbing. Alpaca fiber is such a great sculpting medium to work with. It is so soft. My little characters are so happy to be made. It often seems that they have more say in what they are going to look like than I do. They whisper silly things and usually let me know what their names are while I am working on them.
My crafting now is mainly wood working and needle felting. The little cottages and happy creatures make up the magical world that is Woodland Whimsy. I hope that they can bring of bit of their magic into your life as well.
Wonderful ❤
