Happy Friday! This week has been the week of the nasty summer cold here at Woodland Whimsy. Here’s hoping that today is the end of it.

Frilly Fungus

Frilly Fungus

I found this pretty fungus growing on a fallen birch tree while I was tromping about in the woods near Chase Lake. I reminds me of frilly skirts that look so cute on little girls.

I know that most lake monsters are scary, but here at Woodland Whimsy we don’t seem to be able to find scary monsters anywhere. The monsters that arrive in our world are always sweet and cute.

Peaking over the dock

While we were on vacation, our son wanted to go fishing. I grabbed my camera and went along to see what I could see. I love finding new things(mostly flowers and fungus) to photograph in nature. I got plenty of those photos, but I also got something a bit more interesting.

Behind a tree

I kept seeing this little guy checking out what was happening. He seemed to be a bit shy.

In the bushes

As I continued taking pictures, he hid himself less and less.

What are you looking at

Acting like he couldn’t see me

Eventually he started posing in the open for me.

By the lake

I took his photo by the lake,

In the woods

and in the woods.  He was fascinated by my son fishing.

Trying it out

Trying it out

He finally introduced himself, “My name is Wiggles. That looks better than catching the fish in my mouth. I’m going to try it.” He made himself a fishing pole, but did not have any luck.

FISH

FISH

I explained that we were taking the fish home to cook them before we ate them. “What is cooking?” asked Wiggles. I told him how you make the food hot and flavor it with spices so it tastes so very good.

In the truck

In the truck

Wiggles jumped up in the truck exclaiming, “I’m coming with you so I can try the cooking and fish I didn’t have to catch myself!”

Wearing the seat belt

Wearing the seat belt

I told Wiggles he was welcome to come with us, but he had to wear his seat belt if he was riding in the truck. Wiggles thought that the fish was much better cooked that it was raw. Now we’ve fed him, I don’t think he will ever go back to the lake.
