Little Chair

I am in the process of making a little chair to use for display purposes. I’ll be adding a paint wash to age the cuts on the twigs. I am trying to decide how best to embellish it. Please let me know if you have any ideas for that.

I encountered the oddest creature the other day. He was very shy and I had a difficult time getting him to come out and talk to me once I spotted him. I took photos from several angles. The entry to his home was so interesting.

Peeking out

Peeking out

He was just peeking out of the entrance to his home. He was very timid, rising slowly out of his hole.

Watching me

Watching me

As I sat patiently waiting for the creature to emerge, I noticed eyes appearing through holes in the log. I was being watched by more than the creature slowly coming out of the log.

Another angle

Another angle

Not only was I being watched by eyes, there were little worms that popped out to watch as well.

From the back

Finally the creature started to talk to me. He introduced himself as Ewgles. Ewgles is a goggler. They call themselves that because they have so many eyes it is impossible not to be constantly goggling at everything around them.

Eyes everywhere

Eyes everywhere

Ewgles and I had a lovely chat. Though, he never did come completely out of his hole. The gogglers are really afraid of getting caught by humans and experimented on. They live most of their lives in their underground communities, but they have to come out to find food. I hope I get the chance to meet more gogglers in the future. They sure are interesting creatures.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read today’s story. If you would like to see more of my artwork, you can do so either on my web page or my facebook page.

Ants

There were ants crawling all over this mushroom. I wonder if they scared away the fairy that this looks like the perfect seat for.

Happy Friday! We are very busy getting ready for the San Jose Fantasy Faire here at Woodland Whimsy. We had a great time last year and look forward to an even better one this year.

This photo was taken during another very damp hike. I can just see the fairies huddled up under it to keep dry.

The magical world of the Fae is both here, where we live, and not. While you may never catch sight of the fast moving creatures, sometimes they leave things behind. These lovely little dolls are a favorite of the Fae children.

The Fae children make most of their own toys. The face is painted carefully on the acorn.

They roll up little scraps to be the body.

A leaf is wrapped tightly around the body.

Finally the acorn head is glued to the doll. Little Fae children love to carry these sweet little dolls around in their pockets.

These acorn baby dolls have a painted acorn face and are wrapped in a needle felted leaf. I’ve been doing quite a few new things. If you’d like to see more of my work, you can do so on my facebook page.  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Woodland-Whimsy/152926771418841

Happy Friday once again. It has been warmer this last week here at Woodland Whimsy. We’ve been getting highs in the mid to upper 40s, it has been lovely. I even worked out in the garden a bit yesterday and will probably do so again today.

Fungus 031

This lovely group of fungi is growing on a stump at my mom’s farm. I love the delicate lacy look of it. The Wee Fae must love to come and dance upon this beautiful stump when the moon and stars are shining brightly in the night sky. (The piece of wood you see sitting on top is a small oak burl that is destined to become something wonderful in my shop)

Something new has come to Woodland Whimsy. Large character mushrooms were among the first things that I started felting. I added small faceless mushrooms a bit later. Now I have created smaller character mushrooms. All of these mushrooms are between 2 1/2 and 41/2 inches tall. I was afraid of doing smaller faces. Bigger is easier. However, I didn’t have much of a problem with them. Take a look and please let me know what you think.
