Ricky has always been a bit of a problem goblin.

Ricky was often in time out

He gets into things and stays out later than he should.

He is also a helpful and loving goblin. He found the perfect forever home near Lake Tahoe last month.

Spice Traders Teas is the home of many pirates! They also make really fabulous tea.

Ricky in time out

Ricky gets his time outs lashed to the mast now. He is so happy in his new home. Pirates are often into mischief, so he has no lack of  fellow conspirators in his new home(and many fewer time outs).

Robyn misses him. He has a nice cup of Russian Caravan Tea and thinks about how happy his friend is in his new home.

If you are a tea drinker, I can really recommend the teas from Spice Traders Teas. They have a wide selection of both herbal and regular tea blends. I mostly make my own teas, but couldn’t resist buying some from them as well.

It snowed and snowed at Woodland Whimsy yesterday. The goblins wanted to go out, but I told them they had to wait until today, when it was not actually snowing. They were asking to go out first thing in the morning. It wasn’t even light out yet. It was also 14 degrees. I told them we could go out when it was 25 degrees outside. They were so happy when we reached the designated temperature at about noon. Goblins don’t get cold, but I do. I put on my cold weather clothes and out we went.

Robyn and Ricky

Robyn and Ricky were so happy to be out in the snow.

Myron and his snow ball.

Myron and his snow ball.

Myron made a snowball right away. I was afraid that he was up to no good.

Oh No!

Oh No!

I was right. Myron hit Fred right on top of his head with the snowball.

Building a snow man

Building a snow man

Robyn and Ricky started to build a snowman. At least some of the goblins were playing nicely together.

Fred's get away

Fred’s get away

Fred climbed up a twig to get away from Myron and his snowballs. I wondered if that would actually keep him safe.

All done

All done

“Look, look! We finished out snowman! Hurry, take a picture of us!” Both Robyn and Ricky were so excited to have made their snowman. He even had a face and arms. They did a great job.

Not safe

Not safe

Poor Fred was not safe. Myron hit him with a snowball and knocked him out of his shrub. I told the goblins that that was enough. It was time to brush the snow off and go in the house for a nice cup of cocoa.

My mother lives on a farm. There are  some really lovely oak trees there. Sadly, many of them have oak root fungus. This means that occasionally one will fall over or drop big branches. These falls make lovely firewood. The last time we went to cut firewood, Ricky Goblin Baby wanted to go with us. We had a long talk with him about how to be safe on the way out to the farm. He promised that he would be very careful.

Here is a photo of Ricky while he was waiting for equipment to be prepped to begin.

Trying out the chainsaw

Trying out the chainsaw

When this log was cut most of the way through, we gave Ricky a chance to try the chainsaw. He didn’t like it much.  The chainsaw was a bit too loud and bumpy for him to enjoy using it.

A slerk on the wedge

I know I shouldn’t be surprised, but a slerk showed up while we were working.

Trying out a hatchet

Trying out a hatchet

Ricky liked using the hatchet much better than the chainsaw. I think he’ll be using hand tools when he wants to cut branches in the future.

Ricky on the splitter

Ricky on the splitter

Large logs have to be split into smaller pieces to be used as firewood. This is a photo of Ricky on the splitter before we started the splitter up.

Running the splitter

Running the splitter

We do most of our splitting by hand with a maul, but it sure is nice to be able to use splitter some times. Ricky had a great time running the lever. He is way too short to put the logs up and get them ready.

Here is a close up of Ricky while he was working the lever.

We had a fun, if exhausting day. Ricky slept the whole way home in the truck. He was even too tired to help unload and put away the wood.
